[a2f gold - gracepoint berkeley] Freshmen Outing Saturday 2/28!!

Hey Freshmen!

I wanted to announce a special outing this Saturday 2/28 just for the frosh! It will be a DIM SUM outing with a short hike at the Land's End Trail in San Francisco! For those of you who don't know, the Land's End Trail is regarded by many to be the MOST beautiful trail in Northern California, and is a National Park (did you know we have a National Park right in our backyard?). I have personally been on that trail and I promise you, you do NOT want to miss it!

We will meet at 10:00AM on Saturday at the Anna Head West Parking Lot, and return by 4:00pm. The weather forecast is for a high of 60 degrees with a 30% chance of rain.

Day: Saturday 2/28 Meeting Location: Anna Head West Parking Lot (next to Papamingo's on Channing) Time: Meet at 10am, return by 4pm Please bring: sturdy hiking shoes, dress warmly with a jacket or windbreaker, and money for dim sum

[a2f gold - gracepoint berkeley] Valentine's Day of Compassion

Those of you who have been with us for longer than a year know about a special tradition that we do on Valentine's Day: for us it's called a "day of compassion," because love ain't just about romance, buddy. This year, our a2f Gold students went out the Oakland Care Center to share some of God's love with many of the forgotten elderly living there. Now that's making a statement about love!

We couldn't take any pictures at the home, but here are some fun shots from the prep process:

The love of Christ transform even men of terror into men of compassion!

We're grateful for this chance to be used by God to personally impact the lives of these elderly residents. In addition to preparing gifts, we also practice and sang some songs expressing divine love, songs like "What a Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Amazing Grace." If you missed out this past weekend, then that's too bad. Join us next time!

Hey freshmen,

We will be having a SNOW TRIP this coming Saturday (2/21) especially for you! Please meet at Anna Head West parking lot (next to Papamingo's on Channing just east of Telegraph) at 8am. We will return by 8pm. The snow will be great (with fresh powder), perfect for sledding and SNOW FIGHT!

[a2f gold - gracepoint berkeley] Baptism!

Praise the Lord for the Baptism service last Sunday, where two of our A2F Gold seniors were baptized! Lawrence Wu and David Krauth shared their testimonies of how they came to have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, and we were all encouraged and amazed at how God used circumstances and people to work in their lives.

I have personally known Lawrence and David since their Junior year, and have had the privilege of witnessing God's transforming power in their lives. As I listened to their testimonies, I really had to thank God because it is only through him that we have hope. We have the kind of God that desires to draw all men (and women) to Himself, despite the fact that we often turn away from Him, or do not recognize His goodness.





Praise the Lord for God's love and faithfulness!

[a2f gold - gracepoint berkeley] Valentine's Day of Compassion (2/14)

Valentine's Day in our culture is loaded with connotations of romantic love, mushiness, fattening sweets and flowers, but did you know that the day is named after St. Valentine, a Roman bishop who was martyred for refusing to deny Christ before the Emperor Claudius? St. Valentine was known for performing acts of compassion, including the healing of his jailer's daughter as he was awaiting execution. Here at A2F Gold, we hope to reclaim the spirit of Christian compassion and service during Valentine's Day, and visit a local home for Alzheimer's patients. To see a clip showing some scenes from our past visits, see below:




We will meet at Dana House at 2pm on Saturday 2/14, visit an Alzheimer's home in the area, and then have dinner together. Please join us for a day of showing Christ's love and compassion to those in need.

[a2f gold - gracepoint berkeley] Last Week, In A Nutshell

Hi there, Gold people,

I just wanted to drop you a few snapshots from the activities last week to keep you all updated:

Frosh "Welcome Back" Dinner

Last Wednesday's Frosh "Welcome Back" dinner was a smashing success - I guess what that means is that a lot of freshman came (24 to be exact)... and then we successfully welcomed everybody back - hooray. Well actually, it was more sophisticated than that. For dinner we had some "bun" (pronounced 'boon' - correct me if I'm wrong!), which is a Vietnamese dish consisting of rice noodles, chicken, and bean sprouts topped with fish sauce - very nice.


That's a wide-angle shot of our dinnertime. Remind me next time to take the picture only when Alan is NOT looking. =) After some fun dinner conversation, we had stayed with our tables and played team Scattergories before whipping out the hot chocolate and calling it a night. It was fun and relaxing night, and unlike other a2f Gold get-togethers, you couldn't get access to this one unless you were a freshmen. Or unless you were Wes, Victor, or Vivian (thanks a lot for helping out!)

Post-Bible Study Bowling

After Bible Study this past Friday, 70 of us headed out to Country Club Bowl across the bay for a night of bowling. The pictures for that aren't up yet, but before that happens, remind me again: what were the high scores for your lane? I know Brendan did pretty well for ours but I don't know the others. Let me know in comments! I don't remember! I'll be back!
